Historical background

SPAIN - KINGDOM OF SPAIN - LUIS I

(1707-1724)

Louis I is the eldest son of Philip V of Spain and Marie-Louise-Gabrielle of Savoy. He was married by proxy in 1721 and met his wife Louise-Elisabeth d'Orléans, daughter of Philippe d'Orléans, regent of the Kingdom of France, in 1722. He was king of Spain on January 15, 1724 after the abdication of his father. Unfortunately, he died of smallpox a few months later, on August 31, 1724. His father returned to the throne of Spain.
