(4th - 3rd century BC)
Eretria, the second city on the island of Euboea after Chalcis, was completely destroyed by the Persians during the Persian Wars. The city then fell under the control of Athens and did not recover its independence until 411 BC. The city then became the capital and the place of issue of the League founded that year. The league disappeared definitively with the independence of Greece in 146 BC..
