Wife of Arcadius, mother of Theodosius II - Augusta

Aelia Eudoxia is the daughter of Bauto, a Frankish chief who intervened during the reign of Theodosius I. She married Arcadius in 395 and had considerable influence over her husband. After the birth of Theodosius II in 401, she favored the rupture between Arcadius and his brother Honorius. Before her death in 403 or 404, she practically assured power. Her husband only survived her by four years..
