Exemplaire sur un flan ovale et irrégulier bien centré à l’usure plus marquée au revers qu’au droit. Patine marron avec des reflets métalliques au revers, légèrement bouchée et granuleuse

Reverse description : Genius (le Génie) debout de face, coiffé du modius, nu, drapé autour des hanches, tenant une patère de la main droite et une corne d'abondance de la main gauche.
Reverse translation : "Genio Populi Romani" (Au Génie du Peuple romain).
Commentary
Avec une partie de son argenture superficielle. Rubans de type 3. Cuirasse lisse. Ptéryges fines. Sur cet exemplaire la légende de droit est ponctuée. Cette variante de légende ne semble pas avoir été signalée et semble de la plus grande rareté. Manque à l’ouvrage de Bastien et aux deux suppléments.

Caesar
Galère is of humble origin. Chosen as Caesar on March 1 or May 1, 293, he was subordinate to Diocletian to help him govern the East. Galerius suffered a crushing defeat in 296 against the Sassanids but the following year he defeated Narses. According to Lactantius, he was at the origin of the persecution of Christians in 302-303. During Diocletian's illness, he pushes the latter to abdicate. Diocletian and Maximian leave power on May 1, 305 to Galerius and Constance, who become augusts. The last six years of his life, he watched helplessly as the political regime created by Diocletian: the Tetrarchy crumbled. He died on May 5, 311 after having interrupted the persecution against Christians five days earlier..
