Historical background

GERMANY - KINGDOM OF PRUSSIA - FREDERICK-WILLIAM IV

(7/06/1840-2/01/1861)

Frédéric-Guillaume IV (1795-1861) was the eldest son of Frédéric-Guillaume III and Louise of Mecklenburg. He succeeded his father in 1840. Liberal, he changed his mind with the pan-European revolution of 1848. He lost his mind and his brother, the future William I, assumed the regency from 1856. Frédéric-Guillaume IV died in 1861 childless. He had married Elizabeth of Bavaria. His brother William I then ascended the throne.
