Historical background

GRAND DUCHY OF TUSCANY - COSME III

Cosmo III (1639-1723) belongs to the great Medici dynasty. He is the son of Ferdinand II (1610-1670). On the death of Jean-Gaston, the son of Cosimo III, the Grand Duchy of Tuscany will be given to François III in exchange for Lorraine and while waiting to recover the imperial inheritance. The portrait of his demi-scudos is directly inspired by that of Louis XIV with a tie.
