Obverse description : Victoria (la Victoire) debout à gauche sur un globe, tenant une couronne de la main droite et une palme de la main gauche.
Obverse translation : “Salus Generis Humani”, (Le Salut de l’espèce humaine).

Reverse legend : S. P Q R.
Reverse description : Légende dans une couronne de chêne.
Reverse translation : “Senatus Populus Que Romanus”, (Le Sénat et le Peuple romain).

Commentary


Monnaie fourrée. Au droit, nous pourrions avoir une représentation de la victoire qui se trouvait placé près de l’autel du Sénat, dite victoire de Tarente, installée par Octave dans la Curia Julia (voir le commentaire de P. V. Hill, The Monuments of Ancient Rome, p. 81-82).

Caius Julius Vindex, propraetor of Lyonnaise entered into rebellion against Nero in March 68. The legions of Germania remained faithful to the Emperor and Verginius Rufus defeated the Gallic troops in May. Before disappearing, Vindex had appealed to Galba who was in Spain.
