Exemplaire sur un flan très large et complet des deux côtés avec les grènetis visibles. Usure importante, mais exemplaire parfaitement identifiable. Beau portrait. Revers de style fin. Une épaisse patine grise recouvre l’exemplaire. Grandes rayures qui traversent la partie inférieure du revers

Obverse description : Buste drapé et cuirassé, tête nue d’Hadrien à droite, vu de trois quarts en arrière (A°2).
Obverse translation : “Hadrianus Augustus Pater Patriæ”, (Hadrien auguste père de la patrie).

Reverse


Reverse legend : COS - III.
Reverse description : Zeus Aezani (Jupiter) nu jusqu’à la ceinture debout à gauche, tenant un aigle de la main droite et un sceptre long de la main gauche.
Reverse translation : “Consul tertium”, (Consul pour la troisième fois).

Commentary


Traces de surfrappe. Cet exemplaire appartient à une nouvelle combinaison de coins. Dans son corpus Metcalf avait répertorié treize exemplaires pour cette cité dont onze surfrappés avec onze coins de droit et douze de revers.

HADRIAN

(08/11/117-07/10/138)

Hadrian was born in 76 in Italica. Pupil of Trajan, he married in 100 Sabine, grand-niece of the emperor, and made a career in the staff of the latter, in particular during the Dacian campaign. In 117, he succeeded Trajan, and traveled for twenty years, visiting the entire empire - the only Emperor to have lent himself to this exercise. In 122, Hadrian went to Spain. Childless, he first chose Aélius to succeed him in 136, but the latter died on January 1, 138. Hadrian then adopted Antonin on February 25 and himself chose Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus as Antoninus' heirs. He died on July 10, 138.
