Mohammad, originally from Ghazni in Afghanistan, captured Delhi in 1192 and established the first Islamic state in North India. Upon his death in 1206, Qutb-ud-din Aibeg seized power and created a veritable empire (Ghorid) and ruled over Afghanistan, Pakistan and northern India.
