Reverse description : Étoile à quatre rais, richement ornementée ; le tout dans un carré creux.

Commentary


La tête du lion est plus allongée avec la crinière bien visible. La langue du lion est bien visible. Au revers l’étoile est stylisée. Le type avec le lion à gauche semble moins courant.

IONIA - MILETUS

(6th - 5th century BC)

Miletus, founded in the 12th century BC, had been the seat of the Ionian Confederation. During the War of Liberation, it was crushed in 494 BC. Its cult of Apollo was renowned throughout Asia Minor. Its settlers founded, among others, the colonies of Abydos, Cyzicus, Sinope and Panticapaeum.
