Ce penny avec un style graphique rigoureux a été frappé à Waterford entre 1279 et 1284. Ceux frappés à partir de 1294 présentent en effet des lettres irrégulières.

(1272-1307)

Pope Adrian IV is said to have granted suzerainty over Ireland to King Henry II of England around 1155. A first English expedition was led to Ireland in 1170/1172 by the future John Lackland, fifth son of Henry III. Edward I only occupied the eastern coast of Ireland.
