Le type initial dessiné par Giuseppe Romagnoli et gravé par Pietro Giampaoli a été frappé entre 1950 et 1989 avec un diamètre de 27,8 mm pour un poids de 8 g. Entre 1990 et 1992, le type est repris mais avec une taille réduite 18,20 mm pour un poids de 3,30 g.
