Commentary


Les conditions d'émission des monnaies de Modène (titre et poids) n'étaient pas connues avant la publication de l'article d'Arnaud Clairand dans la Revue Numismatique de 1997. Pendant la guerre de Succession d'Espagne, les Français occupèrent plusieurs villes du Piémont. Modène se rendit le 31 juillet 1702. Dès la fin de l'année 1703, la création d'un atelier monétaire fut envisagée à Modène. Cet atelier frappa au nom de Louis XIV, en 1704 et 1705, des espèces de billon et de cuivre.

During the War of the Spanish Succession, the French occupied several towns in Piedmont. Modena surrendered on July 31, 1702. From the end of the year 1703, the creation of a mint was considered in Modena. This workshop struck in the name of Louis XIV in 1704 and 1705 species of billon and copper.
