Historical background

ITALY - KINGDOM OF THE TWO SICILIES - FRANCIS II

(22/05/1859-21/10/1860)

François II (01/16/1836-12/28/1894) was the son of Ferdinand II and Marie-Christine de Savoie. In 1859 he married Marie-Sophie of Bavaria. He succeeded his father in 1859, but failed to impose the necessary reforms. Garibaldi lands in Sicily at the head of the "Thousand" expedition and forces François to flee. After the defeat of Gaeta in 1861, he retired to Rome, then to Paris after 1870. He died in exile in Trento in 1894.
