ITALY - VENICE - LORENZO TIEPOLO (46th doge)

(1268-1275)

Laurent Tiepolo is the son of Jacques who was Doge of Venice between 1229 and 1249. He succeeded Rainier Zeno (1253-1268) who had to fight against Genoa and could not prevent Michael Paleologus from retaking Constantinople in 1261 with the help Genoese. During his doganat, Laurent Tiepolo had to fight against Ancona and Bologna. He precedes Jacques Contarini (1275-1279) and especially Jean Dandolo (1280-1289), creator of the sequin (zecchino) SON OF JACQUES WHO??.
