Benedict XIII (1649-1730) succeeded Innocent XIII. He kept his monastic habits as a Benedictine monk, breaking with the decadence of his predecessors. However, the government of his states is left to his friend Niccolò Coscia who commits numerous financial embezzlements and ruins the papal treasury..
