Obverse description : Buste diadémé, drapé et cuirassé de Justin à droite vu de trois quarts en avant (A’) ; diadème perlé.
Obverse translation : “Dominus Noster Iustinus Perpetuus Augustus”, (Notre seigneur Justin perpétuel auguste).

Reverse legend : VICTORIA AVGVSTORVH/ -|*// CONOB.
Reverse description : Victoire debout de face, tournée à gauche, tenant une couronne de la main droite et un globe crucigère de la main gauche.
Reverse translation : “Victoria Augustorum”, (La Victoire des augustes).

Commentary


Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités perlées. Diadème perlé avec une sorte de bandeau, terminé par un cabochon gemmé. Fibule d’attache avec trois pendants perlés. Ptéryges fines sous le paludamentum visibles de chaque côté du buste. Étoile dans le champ à droite.

Justin I, illiterate of Macedonian origin, was a brilliant military leader under the reigns of Zeno and Anastasius. At the time of his accession, he was commander-in-chief of the "excubitores" (guards) of Constantinople. He succeeded Anastasius and associated his nephew Justinian with power, who became co-emperor on April 4, 527. Justin died on the following August 1.
