The book describes and comments on 195 medals from the Napoleonic era from the collection of Orazio Barsanti, founder of a factory specialising in the production of casts of works of art. Barsanti built up this collection in Paris so that he could make high-quality casts from moulds taken directly from the originals.
The archival documentation found by the author in Paris makes it possible to date the reconstructions, which make up the majority of the copies, between 1842 and 1860, based on the symbol that appears on them.
