Historical background

LEGION D'HONNEUR – RESTAURATION / LEGION OF HONOUR – RESTORATION

Jean-Pierre Droz produced several medals with the effigy of Henri IV between 1816 and 1820. Jean-Pierre de Puymaurin (1757-1841) who signed under the bust of Henri IV was the Director of the Monnaie de Paris between 1816 and 1830. This medal was therefore made between 1816 and 1823, the date of Droz's death. It combines a right where the King wears the cord and the jewel of the Order of the Holy Spirit created by Henri III in 1575 and on the reverse the Legion of Honor created in 1804 by Bonaparte. The Bourbons maintained the new decoration by placing the royal symbols there..
