Coments on the condition:
Exemplaire sur un petit flan épais, légèrement décentré sur la légende. Très beau portrait pour un monnayage souvent fruste. Frappe un peu molle au revers. Patine noire

Obverse description : Buste diadémé, drapé et cuirassé de Léon Ier à droite, vu de trois quarts en avant (A’a) ; diadème perlé.
Obverse translation : “Dominus Noster Leo” (Notre seigneur Léon).
Reverse
Reverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.
Reverse description : Léon Ier debout à droite, vêtu militairement, tenant un étendard de la main droite et un globe de la main gauche, le pied gauche posé sur un captif agenouillé.
Commentary
Poids très léger. Légende fautée au droit. Imitation de la maiorina ?.

LEO I
(7/02/457-18/01/474)
Leo I (411-474) was an officer of Dacian origin. He succeeded Marcian in 457, tried to reform the army. He counterbalanced the influence of the Germans by a massive entry of Isaurians, including Zeno, his future son-in-law who married Ariadne, the eldest daughter of the emperor and Verina in 467. Leon fell seriously ill in 473. He then chose his little -son, Leo II, to succeed him. Leo I died the following year and Zeno wasted no time in seizing power by joining forces with his son, Leo II, before ousting him..
