Obverse description : Buste lauré, drapé et cuirassé à droite, vu de trois quarts en avant (B*).
Obverse translation : "Licinius Iunior Nobilissimus Cæsar”, (Licinius le jeune très noble césar).

Reverse


Reverse legend : VIRTVS MILITVM DD NN // .TS.E..
Reverse description : Mars ou Virtus (la Virilité) nu, le manteau flottant au vent, marchant à droite, tenant un trophée de la main gauche qui repose sur l’épaule et une haste transversale de la main droite.
Reverse translation : “Virtus militum dominorum nostrorum”, (La virilité des soldats, nos seigneurs augustes).

Commentary


Rubans de type 1. Ce type semble beaucoup plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux. Ce type cotait 10 francs or dans la seconde édition de l’ouvrage d’Henry Cohen en 1888.

Caesar

Licinius II, son of Licinius I and Constantia, nephew of Constantine I, was raised to the caesarat on March 1, 317, at the same time as his cousins Crispus and Constantine II. After his father's defeat in 324, he survives, but suffocates to death two years later.
