(1938-1990)

Located between Austria and Switzerland, the Principality of Liechtenstein has been independent since 1719. It has been linked to Switzerland by a customs and monetary union since 1924. After having reigned forty-six years, Prince François-Joseph II ceded in 1989 power to his son Hans-Adam. Liechtenstein has been part of the European Economic Area since 1995.
