Historical background

LIMOUSIN - VISCOUNTCY OF TURENNE - RAYMOND II, III or IV

(1143-1243)

The stronghold of Turenne was taken by Pépin le Bref in 767. Louis IV d'Outremer (936-954) erected the stronghold of Turenne as a viscountcy for the benefit of Bernard. This fief remained in the family until 1304. The beginning of manufacture is at the end of the 11th century and the monetary law was confirmed by Philippe III le Hardi in 1281. Seven viscounts, all bearing the name of Raymond, are listed in the head of the viscountcy between 1091 and 1304.
