Historical background

LORRAINE - LORDSHIP OF NEUFCHÂTEAU - THIBAUD II DE LORRAINE

(1281-1303)

Thibaud II, son of Duke Ferri III (1251-1303) and Marguerite de Navarre, married Isabelle de Rumigny in 1281. On this occasion, he received the seigneury of Neufchâteau which came under the county of Champagne and belonged to Philippe IV le Bel, of the head of his wife, Jeanne de Navarre (+1305). Thibaud II paid homage to the King of France. In 1299, Thibaut represented his father at the brilliant interview which took place at Vaucouleurs between Philippe IV le Bel and Albert of Austria. Thibaut saw his privileges confirmed in 1300. On the death of Ferri III, Thibaut succeeded his father as Duke of Lorraine until 1312.
