Historical background


LOUIS II

(877-879)

Louis II, known as "le Bègue", was born in Compiègne in 846. He is the second son of Charles II, known as "le Chauve" and Ermentrude. From 856, he governed Maine, then Aquitaine in 967, following the death of his brother Charles the Child. He succeeded his father in 877. He died in 879 leaving two sons, Louis III and Carloman II.
