Ce denier est frappé sur un flan large et régulier. Quelques petites faiblesses frappe. Exemplaire recouvert d’une patine grise et sur lequel la croix du revers apparaît en négatif au revers

Commentary


Ce type monétaire, avec un besant en cantonnement de la croix du revers, est légèrement postérieur à celui du trésor de Fécamp (n° 6763-6765). Il s’agit d’un type immobilisé au nom de Louis IV d’Outremer. D’après Morisson et Grunthal, un seul autre exemplaire est connu, publié par Gariel au XIXe siècle et présentant une légende incomplète.

Louis IV, son of Charles III the Simple, born in 921, was under the rule of Hugh the Great, Duke of Île-de-France (936-954), the true holder of power. Louis dies two years before his rival.
