Exemplaire sur un petit flan bien centré des deux côtés, légèrement bombé au droit. Représentation particulière au droit. Joli revers de style fin. Belle patine verte olive

Commentary


Poids léger. Au droit dans le médaillon, certains y voient le gorgoneion, d’autres une tête d’Héraklès de trois quarts de face à droite. Sur notre exemplaire, nous semblons deviner, la léonté nouée sous le cou.

The kingdom of Macedonia experienced a very difficult period after the fall of Demetrius Poliorcetes who was driven out of Macedonia by Lysimachus and Pyrrhus. The two victors shared the spoils of the kingdom of Epigone. After the death of Lysimachus at the battle of Couroupedion in 281 BC, Macedonia finally fell to Antigone Gonatas, the son of Demetrius Poliorcetes who had won a brilliant victory over the Galatians (Gauls) in 277 BC. C. in Lysimachia.
