Historical background

MACEDONIA - MACEDONIAN KINGDOM - PAUSANIAS

(394-393 BC)

At the beginning of the 4th century, the history of the kingdom of Macedonia was complex and turbulent. After the death of Archelaus in 399 BC. and the death of his young son and successor, Orestes, Aeropos II seized power around 398-397 BC. After his death four years later, Amyntas II succeeded him for a short reign, followed by that of Pausanias, son of Aeropos II, which did not last long. He was assassinated in turn by Amyntas III, the nephew of Perdiccas II. Philip II of Macedon is the youngest son of Amyntas III.
