Emmanuel Pinto succeeded Raymond Despuig (1736-1741) as Grand Master of the Sovereign Order of Malta. The Order of Hospitallers was founded in Jerusalem in 1099. Its seat was located in Malta from 1530 to 1798 and has been in Rome since 1834..
