Superbe monnaie sur un flan idéalement centré des deux côtés. Buste finement détaillé. Très joli revers, bien venu à la frappe. Métal légèrement griffé. Patine de collection

Obverse description : Buste diadémé, casqué et cuirassé de Marcien face, tenant de la main droite la haste qui repose sur l'épaule et de la gauche, un bouclier orné d'un cavalier chargeant à droite (N’a) ; diadème perlé.
Obverse translation : “Dominus Noster Marcianus Pius Felix Augustus”, (Notre seigneur Marcien pieux heureux auguste).

Reverse description : Victoria (la Victoire) drapée, debout à gauche, tenant une longue croix perlée de la main droite.

Historical background


MARCIAN

(24/08/450-31/01/457)

Marcian was born in Thrace in 392. On the death of Theodosius on July 28, 450, he was chosen by Pulcheria, whom he married. He fights effectively against the Huns and refuses to pay them tribute. He convenes the Council of Chalcedon. After a peaceful reign of six years, he died in January 457.
