Monnaie de cuivre sur un flan relativement large pour la taille des coins. Frappe légèrement décentrée au droit, mais avec des types complets. Patine brune, avec de légères piqûres de surface

Commentary


Les monnaies de cuivre sont rares dans le monnayage mérovingien. Les seules vraiment bien classées sont celles de Marseille, avec un nom de roi.
Un exemplaire comparable, sur un flan large mais moins complet a été vendu dans MONNAIES 45, n° 986 à 1178€ sur un ordre maximum de 2050€.

(511-558)

Childebert is the son of Clovis and Clothilde. In 511, on the death of his father, the kingdom was divided between him and his three brothers, Thierry, Clodomir and Clothaire. Childebert inherited the lands located between the Seine and the Loire (Paris, Chartres, Le Mans). In 526, on the death of Clodomir, Childebert and Clotaire slaughtered their nephews to seize his inheritance. In 534, Clothaire and Childebert united and defeated the Burgundians near Autun. In 558 Childebert died childless and his estates were recovered by Clothaire.
