Cette pièce de 28 sols est frappée sur un flan assez large et irrégulier. Coup sur la tranche à 11 heures au revers. Métal piqué sur les deux faces

Reverse description : Aigle bicéphale sous une couronne, portant en cœur le chiffre 28.

Commentary


Ce type monétaire était jusqu’à présent classé par erreur à Emden ou à Modène. Christian Charlet et Francesco Pastrone, à partir d’un document d’archives conservé dans le fonds de la Cour des monnaies de Paris (sous-série Z1b des Archives nationales), ont montré que ces monnaies sans millésime, ont été frappées en 1657 à Monaco, à destination du Levant (BSFN, novembre 2016, p. 352-357). Ces espèces monégasques copient les monnaie d’Emden.

MONACO - PRINCIPALITY OF MONACO - HONORE II GRIMALDI

(1604-1662)

Honoré II, who became prince in 1604, reigned over the principality for 58 years. He was first lord of Monaco between 1605 and 1633, then prince. Until 1641, Monaco was under Spanish protectorate. On this date, the principality returned to French orbit. Honoré was allowed to circulate his coins in France provided that they respected the conditions of the kingdom. The minting of crowns began in 1648. The first type was minted between 1648 and 1651, the second type in 1652 and 1653.
