Historical background

PSEUDO-IMPERIAL COINAGE

(6th century)

Many triens imitate the type of imperial coins. Traditionally those with victory in profile are attributed to the Visigoths and Burgundians, those with victory in front of the Ostrogoths. The pseudo-imperial series attributed to the Visigoths are dated 417-507 for Gaul and 507-580 for Spain.
