Historical background

MURBACH AND LURE - FRANZ-EGON OF FURSTENBERG-HEILIGENBERG

(1665-1682)

François-Égon was born in the castle of Heiligenberg in 1626. Supported by the French who pushed the monk of Saint-Gall Colomban d'Andlau to resign. He took possession of Murbach in 1665 and entrusted the administration to Dean Anselm Meyer of Hirtzbach. In August 1680, ties with the Empire were definitively severed, the Sovereign Council of Alsace uniting Murbach to the crown of France. François-Égon died in 1686 in Cologne..
