Historical background

NIVERNAIS - COUNTY OF NEVERS - MAHAUT II

(1257-1262)

After the death of Countess Yolande, her daughter Mahaut inherited the county of Nevers. Since 1247, Mahaut had been married to Eudes, son of the Duke of Burgundy Hugues IV. His sister, Agnès, shared the Bourbonnais. From her marriage to Eudes, Mahaut had three daughters: Yolande who inherited the county of Nevers on the death of her mother (1262), Marguerite who had the county of Tonnerre and finally Alix who had the county of Auxerre. From 1262 to 1267, Eudes administered the county of Nevers.
