Historical background

OCTAVIAN AND JULIUS CAESAR

Eighteen-year-old Octave, born in 63 BC, was in Apollonia at the time of his great-uncle's death. He rushed to Rome to collect the family inheritance because he had been adopted by Caesar. He changed his name to Caius Julius Caesar Octavianus and decided to form during the year 43 the second Triumvirate with Marc Antoine and Lépide. He was not yet twenty. Octave will fight to conquer power for thirteen years before becoming Augustus on January 16, 27 BC. During all these years and even after, he presents himself as the son of Caesar and his successor.
