Historical background

OTTO

(15/01-17/04-69)

Born in 32, Othon is the friend of Néron and the husband of Poppée. Governor of Lusitania, he supports Galba. On January 10, 69, the latter adopted Lucius Calpurnius Piso instead of choosing Othon who was hoping for this adoption to reach the Empire. On January 15, Galba and Pison are massacred, Otho is proclaimed emperor. Vitellius was also proclaimed by the armies of Germania in January. The final bout takes place in Brédiac, Italy on April 17. Otto, defeated, commits suicide.
