Obverse description : Tête laurée du Triomphe à droite avec un trophée sur l’épaule.

Obverse translation : “Triumpus”, (le Triomphe).

Reverse legend : L. PAPIVS À L’EXERGUE CELSVS III VIR.

Reverse description : Louve à droite, tenant une baguette dans sa gueule devant un brasier, surmonté d’un aigle qui attise les flammes avec ses ailes.

Reverse translation : “Lucius Papius Celsus Triumvir”, (Lucius Papius Celsus triumvir monétaire).

Commentary

Pour ce type, M. Crawford a relevé une estimation de trente coins de droit et de trente-trois coins de revers. Ce denier est en fait beaucoup plus rare que ne le laissent paraître les ouvrages généraux. C’est la deuxième fois que nous proposons ce type à la vente.
