Monnaie exceptionnelle frappée sur un flan bien centré, comportant une importante marque de démonétisation. Quelques petits coups et plats de frappe sont à noter. L’état de conservation est cependant très bon. Patine de collection

Obverse description : Tête luniforme à droite ; entourée d’un demi-cercle perlé se terminant en volute devant la bouche ; chevelure représentée par cinq esses ; une grande volute devant le front ; grénetis.

Commentary
Troisième exemplaire connu pour ce type ! Cette monnaie semble être issue des mêmes coins de droit et de revers que l’exemplaire de la BnF (DT 2420), contrairement au deuxième exemplaire connu illustré dans le tome IV du Nouvel Atlas des Monnaies Gauloises sous le numéro DT S 2420 A. Appartenant à une série dite “homotypique” par J.-B. Colbert de Beaulieu (CdB Parisii 1970), et estimée comme provenant d’un troisième atelier des Parisii par J. Sills (2003), cette monnaie daterait d’environ 70 avant J.-C., avant la guerre des Gaules, et proviendrait du sud-ouest de Paris, proche des Eburovices, des Carnutes et des Durocasses.

The Parisii were a small but powerful people whose oppidum was Lutèce. Related to the Sénons, the Parisii and the city would have emancipated themselves from their tutelage, relatively late, after the Arverne defeat of 121 BC. The wealth of the Parisii rested on the river control of the Seine and the confluences with the Marne, Bièvre, Ourcq and Oise. César chooses Lutèce, in 53 before J. - C. to convene the assembly of the Gallic peoples. The Parisii were among the first to answer the call of Vercingetorix, the following year, in 52 BC, and they provided a contingent of eight thousand men for the relief army. Watched over by Labienus, friend and legate of Caesar, the territory of the Parisii was the scene of the last battles between Gauls and Romans. Eventually, the Aulercan chief Camulogenes was defeated and killed near Lutetia. Caesar (BG. VI, 3; VII, 4, 34, 57, 75). Kruta: 36, 40 46, 68, 365, 368.
