Reverse description : La Liberté assise à droite, tenant de la main gauche une pique surmontée d'un bonnet phrygien et appuyée de la main droite sur un bouclier aux armes du Pérou ; dans le champ à droite, un autel surmonté d'une couronne, inscrit sur un bandeau LIBER/TAD.

Peru gained its independence on July 28, 1821, thanks to General San Martin. Bolivar ensured the integrity of Peru by eliminating the last Spanish troops in 1824 but Spain did not recognize Peru's independence until 1879.
