Exemplaire sur un flan ovale et épais, bien centré des deux côtés. Beau portrait enigmatique. Usure très importante au revers. Patine gris foncé, légèrement granuleuse

Obverse description : Buste diadémé du roi à gauche, un bandeau simple, avec nœud qui tombe derrière la tête, la barbe triangulaire longue et pointue, les cheveux longs tombant sur la nuque ; derrière le buste, un monogramme.

Commentary


Poids très lourd pour une drachme. Normalement pour ces séries, les drachmes pèsent souvent un gramme de moins que le poids théorique.

PERSIS - KINGDOM OF PERSIS - OXATHRES

(1st century BC)

La Perside seems to have played an important role in the history of the Achaemenid Empire. Persepolis was one of the capitals of the Empire. La Perside kept a certain autonomy under the Macedonian domination which was perpetuated under the Parthians. The founder of the dynasty seems to have been Bagadate at the end of the 3rd century BC. Oxathres is one of the sons of Darius II and the brother of Artaxerxes II and the grandson of Autophradates II. His son, Pirouz I succeeded him.
