Obverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.
Obverse description : Tête à gauche, la chevelure faite de longues boucles en esses inversées descendant au-dessous du cou ; œil de face très ovalisé ; oreille ; bouche et nez bouletés de deux points chacun ; collier de perles sous la joue, au sommet d'un cou rectangulaire et long ; très fort menton globulaire.

GALLIA - SOUTH WESTERN GAUL - PETROCORII (Area of Perigueux)

(1st century BC)

The Pétrocoriens or Pétrocores whose territory extended between the Dordogne and the Vézère on the current department of the Dordogne, (the former Périgord) had Périgueux for capital. They were part of Celtic Gaul and will then be attached to Aquitaine. They appear late as the Nitiobroges at the time of the final phase of the Gallic Wars. They provided a contingent of 5,000 men to the relief army. Strabo pointed out that the Petrocores were very good metallurgists and worked iron. Sources: Caesar (BG. VII, 75, Strabo IV, 2, 2).
