Exemplaire sur un petit flan épais, parfaitement centré des deux côtés. Flan fendu à 6 heures au droit. Très beau portrait. Revers de haut relief. Jolie patine avec des reflets mordorés

Obverse description : Buste radié et cuirassé de Philippe II auguste à gauche, vu de trois quarts en avant (B11).
Obverse translation : "Imperator Marcus Iulius Philippus Augustus", (L’empereur Marc Jules Philippe auguste).

Reverse legend : CONCORDIA AVGG.
Reverse description : Concordia (la Concorde) drapée assise à gauche, tenant une patère de la main droite et une corne d’abondance de la main gauche.
Reverse translation : "Concordia Augustorum" (La Concorde des augustes).

Commentary


Rubans de type 3. Ptéryges décorés. Cuirasse lisse ornée d’une tête de Méduse. Ptéryges fines. Pan de paludamentum sur l’épaule droite. Pour ce type avec ce type de buste à gauche, beaucoup plus rare, Thibaut Marchal a relevé seulement cinq exemplaires (sur 1024 au total).

Augustus

Philip II, son of Philip the Arab and Otacilia Severa, was named Augustus in 247. He participated in the commemoration of the millennium of Rome which began on April 21, 247. Philip, his father, was killed at the battle of Verona . Philip II was assassinated shortly thereafter. We do not know what happened to Otacilia Sévéra. Philip II was made Caesar shortly after the accession of his father who awarded him the title of prince of youth.
