Historical background

PICARDY - CORBIE ABBEY

(1100-1120)

The abbey of Saint-Pierre de Corbie was founded in 662 by Queen Bathilde. Some Merovingian and Charlemagne coins are attributed to him without certainty and it is only under Charles the Bald that we have attested issues. Many abbots of Corbie left their name on coins such as Foulque (1048-1095), Évrard, Jean (1158-1172), Josse (1184-1187) and Hugues Ier (1174-1184) or Hugues II (1121- 1240).
