Historical background


PISIDIA - SAGALASSOS

(1st century BC)

Sagalassos was located near the source of Crestos northwest of Cremna. The inhabitants prided themselves on having a Lacedaemonian origin. Coinage begins under the reign of Amyntas, King of Galatia (36-25 BC). Sagalassos was part of its area of influence. On the death of the latter, the kingdom became a Roman province.
