Reverse description : Allégorie féminine debout tenant une croix et une palme, en train d’écrire la première ligne de texte. Une statue d’homme assis tenant un sceptre est posée sur un piédestal orné de guirlandes et de sphinges inscrit de “ROMA”. Inscription en polonais en vingt lignes.

Commentary

Henryk Sienkiewicz est l’écrivain polonais le plus lu à travers le monde. Il reçut le prix Nobel de littérature en 1905 pour son roman “Quo vadis”. Ses nouvelles et romans réalistes traitent entre autre de la représentation de la vie sociale et des droits des polonais.
L’inscription au revers de la médaille énumère les principaux chefs-d’oeuvre de l’écrivain.
Les signes diacritiques propres à la langue polonaise ne sont pas retranscrits.

Une médaille similaire est conservée au musée d’Orsay (numéro d’inventaire MEDOR 1552 2).
