Historical background

POLAND - KINGDOM OF POLAND - ALEXANDER I

(1815-1825)

Alexander I (23/12/1777-1/12/1825) is the son of Paul I, whom he allowed to be assassinated in 1801, and the grandson of Catherine II. He married Louise de Bade in 1793. He was the implacable enemy of Napoleon I. First beaten at Austerlitz in 1805, at Eylau and at Friedland in 1807, he signed the Treaty of Tilsitt in 1807. The rupture between the two emperors took place in 1812. Napoleon began the Russian campaign, was initially victorious and took Moscow, but had to retreat during the winter, Battle of the Moscova. Alexander took part in the campaigns of Germany and France and was the instigator of the Holy Alliance. He ends his life as a hermit.
