Obverse description : Tête d’Apollon lauré à droite.
Obverse translation : “Quintus Pomponius Musa”, (Quintus Pomponius Musa).

Reverse


Reverse legend : HERCVLES/MVSARVM.
Reverse description : Hercule nu debout à droite, la léonté sur l’épaule, tombant jusqu’au sol, jouant de la lyre de la main droite et la massue de la main gauche.
Reverse translation : “Hercules Musarum”, (L’Hercule des Muses).

Commentary


Pour ce type, M. Crawford a relevé une estimation inférieure à moins de dix coins de droit et à moins de onze coins de revers. Ce denier est en fait infiniment plus rare que ne le laissent imaginer les ouvrages généraux. Dans les trésors, seules trois pièces ont été relevées provenant des dépôts de San Giulamo (1 ex.), d’Alvignano (1 ex.) et de Bourgueil ( 1 ex.). C’est en fait le type le plus rare accompagnant la série des Muses.
