Historical background

PONTUS - KOMANA

(1st century BC)

Comana du Pont, not to be confused with the city of Cappadocia, was renowned for its temple and the Ma cult (Cappadocian form of Cybele). The city was of little importance, but the chief priest of the temple was the second personage of the kingdom of Pontus. Coinage is late and only begins under Mithridates VI of Pontus (120-63 BC).
