Sébastien is the son of Jean III (1521-1557) and the grandson of Charles Quint by his mother, Jeanne. He was born on January 20, 1554. On the death of his father, he was under the regency of Catherine and Cardinal Henri. Sebastian's personal government began on January 20, 1568. Cevaleresque king, he decided to take the war to North Africa, but died in the battle of Alcaber-Kibir, August 4, 1578, leaving no heir direct. It was his uncle, Henri who succeeded him.
